Summer McIntosh Dominates at Pro Swim Series Austin
Summer McIntosh showcased her remarkable prowess in the pool, securing victory in the women’s 200m individual medley at the 2026 Pro Swim Series Austin on January 15. The Canadian swimming star finished with an impressive time of 2:08.48, well ahead of her competitors, reaffirming her position as a formidable contender in swimming.
McIntosh quickly established dominance in the race, taking the lead within the first 50 meters and maintaining her advantage throughout. She touched the wall more than five seconds ahead of France’s Cyrielle Duhamel, who finished in second place with a time of 2:13.73. The United States’ Teagan O’Dell completed the podium, clocking in at 2:14.06.
This event marked another significant achievement for McIntosh, who has been training under renowned coach Bob Bowman, who notably coached swimming icon Michael Phelps. Last season, McIntosh set three long course world records and garnered four gold medals at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, highlighting her meteoric rise in the sport.
Léon Marchand Shines in Close Contest
Meanwhile, fellow Bowman disciple Léon Marchand displayed his skills in the men’s 200m individual medley final. Marchand took an early lead, showcasing his strength in the butterfly segment. He maintained control for most of the race, concluding with a time of 1:57.65. His collegiate teammate Carson Foster finished second at 1:58.96, while Team USA’s Kieran Smith claimed third with a time of 1:59.86.
Though Marchand’s performance was notable, it fell short of his own world record in the event. After securing the top spot, he faced stiff competition, including a narrow finish for second place in the men’s 200m backstroke, where he was edged out by fellow Frenchman Yohann Ndoye-Brouard (1:56.68).
Weekend Lineup and Other Notable Performances
The competition included a strong international presence, with Maxime Grousset of France winning the men’s 100m butterfly final with a time of 50.95. Meanwhile, Serbia’s Andrej Barna took home victory in the men’s 50m freestyle at 21.77 seconds.
American star Katie Ledecky also made headlines, triumphing in the women’s 400m freestyle with a time of 4:00.54. In the women’s 50m freestyle, Simone Manuel delighted the crowd with a winning time of 24.79 seconds. As athletes look forward to future events, they continue to build momentum heading into upcoming competitions and preparation for the Olympics.
The Pro Swim Series will feature more exciting action on January 15, with finals in the 50m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 400m individual medley, and men’s 800m freestyle scheduled, providing fans and competitors alike with a thrilling showcase of elite swimming.
