Ubisoft confirms New Game Plus for AC Black Flag Resynced after 3M sales
Ubisoft has announced that a New Game Plus mode is in active development for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. The confirmation coincides with the remake surpassing 3 million copies sold worldwide within its first week of release.
The title launched on July 9 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sales trajectory began with 2 million copies sold on day one, with the subsequent million copies sold over the following week. According to Vantage Studios, a Ubisoft company, this milestone confirms the momentum of the release.
The decision to share specific sales figures is a departure from Ubisoft's usual practice. Historically, the publisher has preferred sharing player counts rather than hard sales numbers for new entries in the Assassin's Creed series. This shift suggests a high level of confidence in the remake's performance, despite reports that some members of the Barcelona development team were laid off just days after the launch.
Technical Foundation and Replayability
The New Game Plus mode is intended to boost long-term replayability for dedicated players. While specific details on its operation have not been released, game director Richard Knight indicated that the feature is a high priority. Knight explained that the development of a similar system for the 2025 title Assassin's Creed Shadows helped set the stage, making the addition a low-risk feature
for the team.
"Well, this is the one thing I can say: Yes, we're working on that right now. For sure. It's one of the first things,"

Knight noted that while he cannot promise a specific release date, the mode remains at the top of the studio's list of objectives.
Market Performance and Reception
The remake, led by Ubisoft Singapore and powered by the latest Anvil engine, has seen strong engagement on Steam. Alinea Analytics estimated that the game sold over 700,000 copies on that platform, generating $35.1 million in revenue. The game also reached a peak concurrent player count exceeding 104,000.
Ubisoft attributes the game's "Very Positive" rating from English-language Steam reviews to responsive post-launch support, which has included bug fixes and quality-of-life updates. Reviews across all languages are currently rated as "Mostly Positive."
The commercial success extends to microtransactions. Despite facing backlash over its Character and Naval Packs, the game reportedly earned nearly $1 million from these additions on Steam shortly after launch.
A Modernized Caribbean
Rebuilding the 2013 original from the ground up, the remake introduces enriched gameplay mechanics. These include:
- Parry-driven combat
- Improved stealth and parkour
- Deeper naval mechanics
- New narrative content
The story continues to follow Edward Kenway during the Golden Age of Piracy as he navigates the conflict between Assassins and Templars and interacts with historical figures like Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, and Blackbeard.
Further additions to the experience include a collaboration with GRAMMY-nominated artist Woodkid, who is returning to the franchise to provide a reimagined track. This musical contribution is expected to be revealed later this year.
The game is currently available via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store for PC, as well as on consoles and through Ubisoft+.
