AC Black Flag Resynced sells 3 million copies and gets New Game+ mode
Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced sold more than 3 million copies within one week of its July 9, 2026, launch. The remake, which is the first major release under the Tencent-backed Vantage Studios banner, saw 2 million copies sold on its first day alone.
To celebrate the milestone, the company confirmed that a New Game+ mode is in development. While no specific release window was provided, game director Richard Knight told YouTuber JorRaptor that the feature is at the top of the priority list. Knight noted that the development of a similar version in 2025's Assassin's Creed Shadows made the feature a low-risk
addition for the team.
The title is a ground-up rebuild of the 2013 original, led by Ubisoft Singapore and powered by the Anvil engine. It introduces updated visuals, parry-driven combat, new narrative content, and improved stealth and parkour. It is currently available on Windows PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Market Performance and Reception
The game has achieved several records and benchmarks on Steam, including becoming the most-played entry in the franchise on the platform. It surpassed the previous all-time concurrent player record of 99,451. Additionally, Black Flag Resynced sold more than five times the number of pre-launch copies on Steam compared to AC Shadows.
While English reviews on Steam have reached Very Positive
following post-launch bug fixes and quality-of-life updates, reviews across all languages remain Mostly Positive
. IGN gave the title a 9/10.
However, the launch was not without friction. Players criticized approximately $85 worth of day-one microtransactions. Ubisoft responded by stating that the standard edition provides the full experience and that these purchases are optional. Despite the backlash, analytics reports indicate the day-one DLC earned $1 million from Steam alone.
Internal Turmoil and Studio Changes
The commercial success coincides with significant instability within Ubisoft's corporate structure. Days after the game shipped, Ubisoft disbanded its Barcelona studio and laid off 51 employees who had worked on the project. Reports suggest these cuts were planned before the launch and were unrelated to the game's performance.
Vantage Studios, founded in 2025, now oversees the Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises. The success of this remake is seen as a credibility boost for this new structure and a potential indicator for future projects; previous reports indicate that further remakes of classic titles may be greenlit based on the performance of Black Flag Resynced.
Community Updates and Content
Ubisoft has stated the game is now content complete
, meaning players should not expect major DLC expansions. Future development will focus on community events and smaller updates.
- Event Glitch: A planned community treasure hunt for July 17 was disrupted when a player accidentally discovered the grand prize early, unlocking the Explorer Outfit for Edward Kenway before the official start.
- Rewards: To mark 3 million sales, Ubisoft released a redemption code (ACBF-PHGN-SYBJ-RTRF) for 1,500 Animus Keys and Crimson Storm sails.
As the studio moves forward, the focus remains on the delivery of the New Game+ mode to enhance replayability for dedicated players.
