Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sold 2 million copies worldwide on its first day of release, July 9, 2026. The remake, developed by Ubisoft Singapore, launched simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The title established a new franchise record for the series on Steam, reaching a peak of 99,451 concurrent players within its first 24 hours. This performance surpasses the player counts of newer entries in the series, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game also ranked No. 1 on Twitch during its launch day.

Martin Schelling, Head of Assassin’s Creed Brand, stated that the project was a promise to the passion for the adventures of Edward Kenway and the sense of freedom players felt in the original 2013 release.

"Black Flag has always held a special place in the heart of the community, and ours. Bringing it back with Resynced was a promise to that passion for Edward’s adventures, and to the unique sense of freedom players experienced back then. Seeing 2 million players set sail on day one, along with the great reviews from critics, is the greatest reward we could have hoped for."

Built from the ground up using the latest Anvil engine, the remake is described as a faithful recreation that retains original content while introducing modern technical upgrades. The Caribbean environment now features a seamless open world with dense tropical jungles, underwater shipwrecks, and stormy waters.

Gameplay enhancements include:

  • Parry-driven combat and new takedowns.
  • Improved stealth and parkour for better assassinations and escapes.
  • Deeper naval mechanics, including alternate fire modes for the ship, the Jackdaw.
  • New narrative content and quality-of-life changes.

Critics have responded positively to the release. The game holds an 85% Top Critic Average on Open Critic and an 84% review score on Metacritic, the highest ratings for an Assassin's Creed title since the original Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. IGN awarded the game a 9/10, calling it bigger and better in all the ways that matter, while Digital Foundry described it as one of the most effective remakes we’ve ever seen.

The commercial success follows a marketing strategy that positioned the title as a full remake rather than a simple remaster. While some players have raised concerns regarding extra content packs and optional microtransactions, the overall reception remains strong. The game is available through the Ubisoft Store, Steam (where it is Steam Deck verified), and the Epic Games Store, as well as via Ubisoft+.

The opening day sales of 2 million copies contrast with the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which Ubisoft characterized as having 1 million players on its first day. While Shadows eventually reached 3 million players in its first week and 5 million within four months, the rapid start of Black Flag Resynced suggests a high level of nostalgia and interest in the pirate-themed narrative.

Ubisoft's official X account celebrated the milestone with a message to the community: Dash my Buttons... Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has already passed 2 million copies sold! Whether you're sailing with us again, or stepping aboard the Jackdaw for the first time: THANK YOU from the bottom of ARR hearts.
