Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced sold 2 million copies on its first day following its July 9, 2026, release. The remake, led by Ubisoft Singapore and announced via Vantage Studios, has emerged as one of the strongest opening-day releases in the franchise's history.

The commercial success was matched by a record-breaking performance on PC. On Steam, the game reached a peak of 99,451 concurrent players within 24 hours of launch, the highest concurrent player count ever recorded for any Assassin's Creed title on that platform. Additionally, the game ranked number one on Twitch on July 9.

This willingness to share a firm sales figure is a departure from Ubisoft's typical reporting habits. For example, the publisher only confirmed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla's launch week in 2020 was the biggest in series history without providing exact numbers. Similarly, the company stated in 2023 that Assassin's Creed Mirage's release was in line with Origins and Odyssey. While Assassin's Creed Shadows was the best-selling game of March 2025 and reached 3 million players in its first week, Ubisoft's earlier reporting relied on "players" rather than "copies sold." According to Insider Gaming, Shadows reached 1 million players on its first day and 5 million players within its first four months.

"Black Flag has always held a special place in the heart of the community, and ours."

Schelling added that bringing the game back was a promise to the passion for Edward Kenway's adventures and the sense of freedom players experienced in the original. He described the 2 million first-day players and positive critical reception as the greatest reward the team could have hoped for.

The remake of the 2013 original is rebuilt from the ground up using the latest Anvil engine. It introduces several gameplay overhauls, including parry-driven combat, improved stealth and parkour, and deeper naval mechanics. The Jackdaw now features alternate fire modes and quality-of-life changes. Narrative content has also been expanded within a seamless open world featuring tropical jungles, stormy waters, and underwater shipwrecks.

Critics have responded favorably to the technical leap. The game holds an 85% review score on Open Critic and 84% on Metacritic, making it the highest rated in the series since the original Black Flag launched. Digital Foundry called it One of the most effective remakes we've ever seen, while IGN gave the title a 9/10, stating it is bigger and better in all the ways that matter.

Despite the praise, the launch has not been without friction. Some players have used the Steam reviews page and social media to express disappointment regarding the game's microtransactions and extra content packs.

The game is available on Windows PC via Steam, the Ubisoft Store, and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Ubisoft+. While the remake costs $60, this is $10 less than the price of Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Players can now navigate the Caribbean as Edward Kenway, engaging in the conflict between Assassins and Templars while encountering historical figures such as Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, and Blackbeard.
