Breguet’s New Watches Celebrate the 225th Anniversary of the Tourbillon
Breguet has unveiled a quartet of tourbillon timepieces to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the patent granted to the maison's founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet. The original patent was filed on June 26, 1801—known as 7 Messidor Year 9 in the French revolutionary calendar. Designed to eliminate positional errors and improve oil distribution within the mechanism, the tourbillon remains a defining achievement in horology.
The anniversary collection reflects a broader strategic shift for the brand, which is currently paring its offerings down to modernized versions of representative enthusiast favorites and high-complication boundary-pushing pieces. This follows the brand's 250th anniversary, which saw the debut of the Expérimentale 1, a 10Hz tourbillon that earned the title of Best Watch of the Year in 2026.
The Classique Tourbillon 7357
The Classique Tourbillon 7357 is a direct successor to Ref. 3350, the first modern tourbillon wristwatch produced by Breguet. Measuring 35mm in diameter and 9.2mm thick, the new model is slightly smaller and thinner than its predecessor. It is available in either platinum or a proprietary 18-karat Breguet gold alloy, which shifts between yellow and rose tones.
The watch is powered by the new manually wound Calibre 187B, which features 41% new components compared to the previous generation. While it maintains a frequency of 2.5 Hz, the movement now offers a 60-hour power reserve. The caliber is designed for antimagnetism, utilizing a silicon pallet-lever and a Breguet Nivachron balance spring, which allows for the use of gold on the hands. Visually, the movement introduces a double, rounded-off, polished arched
bridge and a new guilloché finishing style called Dent de Vaulion
, inspired by a mountain in the Vallée de Joux.
The 18-karat gold dial features Clous de Paris guilloché at the center and a barleycorn pattern around the edge. Prices for the 7357 are $184,800 for the Breguet gold version and $203,300 for the platinum version.
The Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255
Limited to 50 individually numbered pieces, the Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 utilizes a mystery
design that makes the gears connecting the cage to the caliber appear invisible—a feature Breguet has not employed for nearly 20 years.
The 38mm platinum case houses a black aventurine Grand Feu enamel dial that appears deep green at certain angles. The manually wound Calibre 187M1 provides a 50-hour power reserve. This model retails for $294,400.
The Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante 5887
The largest piece in the collection, the Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante, is a platinum limited edition of 25 pieces. It serves as an homage to Breguet’s history with the French Royal Navy, featuring a hand-engraved depiction of the 18th-century ship Royal Louis on the caseback.
The 43.9mm watch features a highly customizable sapphire dial. Each piece is hand-painted in gradient-blue Grand Feu enamel to depict the night sky based on a specific location, date, and time chosen by the owner. The Caliber 581DPE is a peripherally wound automatic movement with a 4 Hz frequency and an 80-hour power reserve. It integrates a perpetual calendar and an equation of time display, which measures the difference between mean solar time and true solar time.
The watch retails for $385,900.
The Tradition Tourbillon 7047
The Tradition Tourbillon is a technical limited edition of 25 pieces that combines a tourbillon with Leonardo da Vinci’s fusee-and-chain mechanism. The 41mm case is featured.
This iteration features a distinct color palette: a glacier-blue sandblasted mainplate, Bleu de France bridges and chain, and a Grand Feu Bleu de France enamel dial. The movement, Calibre 569, is manually wound with a 55-hour power reserve. This model is priced at $325,200.
