Lamborghini reveals 801-hp Urus SE Performante hybrid SUV

Lamborghini has unveiled the Urus SE Performante, a plug-in hybrid super-SUV that the company claims is the most powerful and quickest Urus ever built. Revealed on 1 July 2026, the vehicle is designed to replace the previous non-hybrid Performante at the top of the range, merging a twin-turbo V8 with electric assistance to establish a new benchmark for performance SUVs.

The powertrain pairs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, producing 620 CV (612 hp), with a 141 kW (189 hp) electric motor. Combined, the system generates 801 hp (812 PS) and 1,000 Nm (737 to 738 pound-feet) of torque. This represents a slight increase over the standard Urus SE, specifically 12 PS and 50 Nm of additional torque, credited to reworked engine management software and a free-flowing exhaust.

This power allows the all-wheel-drive SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds. Lamborghini reports a top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph) and a 0-200 km/h time of 10.8 seconds. To manage this output, the vehicle utilizes an eight-speed automatic transmission retuned to minimize shift lag.

Aero and Weight Reduction

To offset the weight of the 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, Lamborghini utilized extensive carbon fiber for the hood, roof, wings, side skirts, and rear diffuser. These materials, along with lightened sound deadening and a swap from leather to Corsa Tex Dinamica upholstery, reduce the vehicle's mass by 32 kg compared to the regular SE. Further weight savings come from a new aluminum Akrapovič titanium exhaust system, which saves 10 kg. Despite these efforts, the SUV weighs 2,473 kg (approximately 5,472 pounds).

The exterior features "angrier" styling designed for aerodynamic efficiency. A new S-duct through the front bumper and hood pushes the nose down at speed, while the largest rear diffuser ever fitted to a Urus works with a roof-mounted wing and lip spoiler to increase rear downforce. According to Lamborghini, the SE Performante produces 23 percent more downforce than the standard SE and 16 percent more than the previous non-hybrid Performante. Aerodynamic drag is reduced by 3 to 5 percent compared to the standard SE.

Chassis and Control Systems

The suspension has been overhauled with the "AURA" (Active Ultra Responsive Air) dual-chamber air-spring system. This replaces the steel springs of the previous Performante and the single-chamber setup of the standard SE. The system is designed to reduce body roll by 55 percent during spirited driving while reducing vibrations by 25 percent during daily use. For added stability, the track width has been increased by 0.6 inch (16 mm).

Braking performance is enhanced by carbon-ceramic discs (440 mm front, 410 mm rear) and a new "Integrated Power Brake" control unit. These upgrades provide a 10 percent increase in braking power and 8 to 12 percent better cooling and responsiveness. Lamborghini claims a 100-0 km/h stop in 32.8 meters.

The SUV also incorporates a "6-D sensor," previously seen in the Fenomeno and Temerario. This device measures acceleration across three spatial axes and angular velocities for pitch, roll, and yaw, allowing the onboard computers to adjust dynamic behavior in real time.

Interior and Driving Modes

Inside, the cabin is designed to make the driver feel like a pilot, according to design director Mitja Borkert. The interior features a redesigned 12.3-inch touchscreen interface, carbon-fiber trim, and microsuede Dinamica textile on the dashboard to reduce reflections. The cockpit includes Y-shaped aluminum vents and a carbon steering-wheel bezel.

The vehicle offers a wide array of driving modes:

  • Strada: Everyday comfort.
  • Sport and Corsa: Performance and racing-focused settings.
  • EV, Hybrid, and Recharge: Management for the hybrid battery.
  • Rally: A new mode for loose surfaces that softens the suspension and increases torque to the rear wheels.

The hybrid system provides over 60 km (37 miles) of pure-electric range, with an EV top speed exceeding 130 km/h.

Market Position and Availability

On paper, the Urus SE Performante out-powers several key rivals, including the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid (729 hp), the Ferrari Purosangue (715 hp), and the Aston Martin DBX707 (697 hp).

Lamborghini has not officially announced pricing or a specific U.S. Release date, though sales are expected to begin closer to the start of 2027 with an estimated starting price around $300,000.
