Justin Bieber to co-headline first FIFA World Cup Final halftime show
Justin Bieber has been named a co-headliner for the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show, scheduled for Sunday, July 19, 2026. The event will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, also referred to as New York New Jersey Stadium.
Bieber joins a star-packed lineup that includes Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel, and Coldplay. According to FIFA, the performance is being curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay. The broadcast is expected to last 11 minutes, a duration that organizers confirmed on Wednesday. This specific timing aims to address concerns regarding the length of the halftime break, as football laws permit an interval not exceeding 15 minutes. Previous speculation suggested the show could stretch to 25 minutes, and a trial halftime show at last year's FIFA Club World Cup final at the same venue extended the break to over 24 minutes, which some critics argued could impact player performance.
The production will be handled by Global Citizen in partnership with Live Nation and Done + Dusted. In addition to the musical acts, the show will feature characters from The Muppets and Sesame Street. Coldplay is slated to collaborate with the PS22 Chorus, a choir from a New York public elementary school.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a landmark initiative aiming to raise $100 million to expand football and quality education access for children globally. The fund has already generated over USD $50 million. To support this goal, $1 from every ticket sold for FIFA World Cup 2026 matches is donated to the fund. In May 2026, FIFA and Global Citizen announced the first group of organizations to receive grants from the fund.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the show is intended to connect education, music, and soccer.
Infantino further described the event as "definitely the biggest stage ever," expecting "a couple of billion" viewers."When it comes to what the world needs, there is nothing more important than education,"

For Bieber, the performance is his first since his appearance at Coachella, where the 32-year-old pop singer earned $10 million for his headlining sets, making him the highest-paid performer in the festival's history. While fans on Instagram have called for a new world tour, Bieber has not announced one. His last full concert tour, the Justice World Tour, occurred in 2022; he has since reduced heavy touring due to health concerns, including Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
Bieber has been actively engaging with the tournament, attending the opening ceremony and attending the opening game in Los Angeles with his wife, Hailey. He also used Instagram to support Canada, captioning a photo of the team's logo, SEND YOUR LOVE AND PRAYERS TO TEAM CANADA. PLAYING NOW #fifaworldcup2026.
In a statement regarding his selection, Bieber said:
"The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can. I’m grateful to be part of this Halftime Show, and even more grateful knowing it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world."

Other performers also highlighted the significance of the event. Burna Boy described representing Africa on the first-ever World Cup Final Halftime Show as a privilege and a responsibility
he does not take lightly. Hugh Evans, CEO and co-founder of Global Citizen, characterized the event as the largest gathering of artists for a cause since Live Aid.
The tournament continues with the Round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals, during which players are wearing a Unite for Education sleeve patch to raise awareness for education initiatives. The championship teams for the July 19 final will be determined following the conclusion of the semifinals.
