Al Hilal agree £68m deal with West Ham to sign Crysencio Summerville

Al Hilal have reached an agreement with West Ham United for the transfer of Netherlands international Crysencio Summerville in a deal worth approximately £68m (€80m), according to Sky Sports News and David Ornstein. The move follows a series of rejected bids from European clubs and exploratory interest from the Premier League.

The 24-year-old winger is scheduled to undergo a medical with the Saudi Pro League club's medical department. A long-term contract is ready for the player to sign once final authorisations are completed, at which point he will officially join the Blue Waves in Riyadh.

West Ham, who have been relegated to the Championship, have proven to be obstinate negotiators throughout the summer. The Hammers have already sold Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85m. Once the Summerville sale is finalized, West Ham will have raised more than £150m from the two players. This transaction would represent the third-highest sale in the history of the club, trailing only Declan Rice and Mateus Fernandes.

The deal comes after Al Hilal surged ahead of AS Roma. The Italian side had viewed Summerville as a priority target ahead of their return to the Champions League and had reportedly prepared a private jet to bring the player from Rotterdam to Rome. Roma’s initial proposal of £39m (€46m) was rejected on Monday. While some reports suggested Roma were close to a deal for just under €50m (£43m) and had agreed personal terms worth €4m per season, the Saudi offer—nearly double Roma's first proposal—was quickly accepted by West Ham.

Sources indicate that Roma will not enter a bidding war, as Al Hilal has offered a four-year contract with wages that could reach €15m per season. Roma officials believe that if the player chooses to abandon a Champions League opportunity for such a figure, they will not attempt to stop him.

Manchester United had also identified Summerville as a leading target for the left wing this summer. INEOS had hoped to secure a cut-price deal following West Ham's relegation, with United's recruitment team valuing the player in the £30 million bracket. However, West Ham demanded £50 million, leading to protracted negotiations. Interest in the winger remained exploratory and was dependent on the sale of Marcus Rashford.

With Marcus Rashford now set to remain at Manchester United and looking forward to working under Michael Carrick after a loan spell at Barcelona, United's pursuit of Summerville has ended. Aston Villa was also among the clubs that admired the winger.

Summerville arrives in Saudi Arabia following a productive period on the pitch. During the 2025/26 season, he made 34 appearances for West Ham, recording seven goals and five assists. He also featured in all four of the Netherlands' matches at the 2026 World Cup, contributing four goal contributions across those games, including a goal on June 20, 2026, against Sweden in Houston, Texas.

The transfer is a notable financial windfall for West Ham as they prepare for life in the Championship. The club has also seen the departure of Callum Wilson to Brentford on a free transfer and Krisztian Hegyi to Sparta Prague for an undisclosed fee.
