Real Madrid deny interest in signing Chelsea's Enzo Fernández
Real Madrid have issued a categorical denial regarding reports that the club is seeking to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández. On Friday, July 3, the La Liga giants released an official statement via their website and social media platforms to shut down speculations that they were closing on a deal to bring the Argentine to the Spanish capital for the 2026/27 campaign.
"In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid CF in the player Enzo Fernandez, the club wishes to state that it has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation."

The club expressed its "utmost respect" for Fernández and Chelsea, citing principles of "institutional loyalty" as the reason for the public refutation. Real Madrid stated it regrets that unfounded information continued to be disseminated, which the club claims only serves to create confusion among fans and harm the people and entities involved.
Premier League Transfer Activity
While Real Madrid clarified its position, activity remains high across the English Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur has been the busiest club so far this summer. The side, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, completed its fifth signing on Thursday, July 2, by acquiring Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85million. Tottenham is also expected to confirm a £100million deal for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali today.
The move for Tonali has drawn criticism from Simon Jordan on TalkSPORT, who questioned why elite players would join a side that finished fourth from bottom of the league last season. Jordan suggested the move might be driven by money or ambition.
Manchester United has yet to make a first-team addition this summer, but manager Michael Carrick is exploring several targets to strengthen the squad for a return to the Champions League. The club has opened "exploratory" talks with West Ham for Crysencio Summerville, who is valued at around £50million. United is also reportedly interested in:
- Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, for whom a new offer is being prepared.
- AC Milan's Rafael Leao, whom Milan may allow to leave for a fee between £51m and £60m.
- Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr.
- 17-year-old Mexican star Gilberto Mora, who is valued at €40 million (£34.3m).
Conversely, United confirmed that goalkeeper Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan again for the 2026/27 season in a deal that could see United receive up to £1.28million in bonuses.
Bidding Wars and Youth Talent
A battle for teenage talent has emerged between Manchester City and Arsenal over Leicester City attacker Jeremy Monga. While Arsenal had been pushing for the 16-year-old and had a bid rejected due to a valuation they deemed too high, Manchester City has since intervened. City has reached an agreement to sign Monga in a deal worth £12.8million.
Chelsea has focused on different reinforcements. The club announced the arrival of Marco Palestra and is currently negotiating for left-back Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano. Chelsea also targeted Granit Xhaka with a £8million bid, but the 33-year-old Sunderland midfielder has reportedly reaffirmed his commitment to remain on Wearside. Xhaka, when questioned after a World Cup match against Algeria, stated that's not my job
regarding the rumors, noting that he prefers to concentrate on the tournament.
Global Managerial Shifts
The managerial landscape has shifted with the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the new head coach of Al Nassr on a two-year deal. Postecoglou, who previously managed Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, replaces Jorge Jesus. He joins a squad that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman, and Joao Felix.
In international football, Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as the head coach of the Germany national team following a World Cup exit where the team lost to Paraguay on penalties. Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reported to be the leading candidate to take over the role starting in September.
The summer transfer window, which opened on Monday, June 15, remains open until Deadline Day on Tuesday, September 1, closing at 11pm.
