A four-year-old Langley boy who was reported missing has been found safe, according to the Langley RCMP. The boy, identified as Ryan Atlas Andrews, was last seen on July 15 and reported missing on July 16.
During the search, police believed Atlas may have been traveling with his mother, Alisse Andrews, in a 2021 black Nissan Qashqai with a British Columbia license plate. The public was urged to contact the authorities if they saw the vehicle or the pair, but were cautioned not to approach them.
The investigation focused on locating Atlas and his mother, and determining their movements during the period they were missing. The Langley RCMP led the search and were coordinating inquiries, with further updates expected as the situation developed.
According to Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP, anyone who had seen Atlas, Alisse, or the vehicle was asked to contact the authorities immediately. The public was able to provide information by calling the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 or by contacting Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
Atlas is described as a Caucasian male, standing three feet tall and weighing 50 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. The potential vehicle, a 2021 black Nissan Qashqai, had a British Columbia license plate number RV0 03L.
The disappearance did not trigger an Amber Alert, as it did not meet the threshold for activation. The AMBER Alert program is intended for the most serious, time-critical child abduction cases, and is not typically used for cases involving parental abductions, except in life-threatening situations.
Global News had requested clarification on why the disappearance was not being treated as an Amber Alert, indicating ongoing communication between the press and police. The AMBER Alert program can be used in any abduction that meets the criteria, regardless of the relation the abductor has with the victim.
The search for Atlas and his mother was a coordinated effort, with the Langley RCMP working to locate the pair and assess potential risks.
