Man shot dead in car on Sydney street
A man was found shot dead inside a car on a suburban street in Sydney, leaving neighbours devastated and in disbelief. The incident occurred on North Rocks Rd, where the man, believed to be in his 30s, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.
According to Acting Superintendent Michael Marinello, the dead man was known to police and was the intended victim of a targeted attack. Marinello stated that the attack was not a case of mistaken identity and was not a random attack. The police believe that the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The victim was found by a passer-by around 7am on Wednesday, and despite efforts to save him, he died at the scene. Neighbours described the victim as a quiet and friendly person who largely kept to himself. One neighbour said that the victim was a good guy who loved working on his car and always asked how you were.
The police are investigating reports of multiple shots being heard in the area between 5am and 5.30am, almost two hours before the man was found. A resident of North Rocks Rd reported waking up to the sound of gunfire around 5.30am and seeing a couple of shots, which could have been an echo.
The police have sealed off part of North Rocks Rd and are examining the scene. The man's body remained in the driveway as the investigation got underway. Marinello urged anybody who may have dash camera footage or evidence from around the time of the incident to contact police.
In a separate incident, a gunman was shot and killed by police in Kendall County, near Chicago, Illinois. The gunman had broken into a home and killed the owner with his own weapon. Bodycam footage showed the gunman fleeing in a stolen Ford Bronco SUV before being forced to stop and get out of his car in heavy traffic.
The gunman was seen aiming a pump-action shotgun at the two officers chasing him before being shot by the officers. The man was pronounced dead in hospital.
In other news, an Indiana state trooper is recovering in a hospital after being shot by a suspect who was being pursued by law enforcement in a stolen car. The incident began around 5:30am, and the suspect was later found dead with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, a number of new movies are being released, including Edgar Wright's The Running Man, which stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a working-class man who participates in a deadly TV competition game show.
Other new releases include One Battle After Another, and Roofman, which stars Channing Tatum as a military vet who robs McDonald's restaurants by entering through the roof.
In addition, a new documentary about Eddie Murphy has been released, which features the actor and comedian telling his own story and correcting the record as he sees fit.
Finally, the action-comedy sequel Nobody 2 has been released, which sees Bob Odenkirk return as his character Hutch, attempting to vacation with his family but getting caught up in a series of increasingly satisfying and violent set pieces.
