Chelsea have initiated formal discussions with the representatives of Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe as they look to strengthen their attacking options. Chelsea have opened talks with the representatives of Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe as they look to add attacking width this summer.
Rowe, 23, joined Bologna from Norwich City in 2024, has impressed in Serie A with his direct running, versatility across the front line, and eye for goal. During the 2025/26 campaign, Rowe contributed 8 goals and 4 assists across 43 appearances. His temperament has been highlighted by notable performances in high-pressure situations, including a 91st-minute winner against Napoli and a goal against Aston Villa during Bologna’s run in European competition.
While Chelsea have placed Rowe high on their shortlist, they are concurrently surveying the broader market. Other wingers under consideration by the club include Crysencio Summerville, who is currently associated with West Ham, and Francisco Trincão.
The pursuit of Rowe is not without competition. Aston Villa has been identified as a suitor monitoring the player's situation, and Manchester United has also been linked to his progress, with scouts reportedly observing his performances regularly. Furthermore, reports indicate that Galatasaray has entered the conversation, providing the appeal of potential Champions League football.
Bologna currently maintain a firm stance regarding the player, to whom they are tied until June 2029. The Italian club has indicated they are under no immediate pressure to sell, as they view him as a central component of their project. Valuation estimates vary, with figures cited between €40 million and €45 million, or approximately £39.2 million to £40 million. Any eventual transfer structure must also account for a 10 per cent sell-on clause held by Marseille.
For the player, the prospect of a return to England remains a significant career consideration. Rowe has previously expressed a view regarding the quality of the Premier League, and his existing London roots are cited as a logical factor in a potential move. Neither Bologna nor Chelsea has confirmed a formal bid as of early July, though the ongoing dialogue suggests that negotiations could accelerate as the summer window progresses.
Chelsea’s interest in Bologna extends beyond the winger; reports indicate they have also scouted forward Santiago Castro. The summer transfer window closes on September 1st 2026.
