India wins record seven boxing golds at 2026 Commonwealth Games

Indian boxers delivered their greatest-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday, August 1, 2026, securing a record-breaking haul of seven gold medals. The dominant display in the ring, combined with successes in judo and para-athletics, propelled India to fourth place in the overall medal table during the penultimate day of competition in Glasgow.

India topped the boxing medal table with seven gold and three silver medals, surpassing its previous best campaign at the 2018 Gold Coast Games, where the country won three golds. The women's contingent led the charge with five gold medals won by world champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Asian champion Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg).

In the men's division, Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Ankush Panghal (70kg) both clinched gold. The boxing campaign also saw silver medals for Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain in the 75kg event, Jadumani Singh in the 55kg category, and Asian Games bronze medallist Narender Berwal in the 90+kg event.

Arundhati Choudhary's gold medal victory came via a unanimous decision over Australia's Skye Reid. According to reports, the final was tactical, with Choudhary maintaining control and dictating the pace to secure the win.

Beyond the ring, India's para-athletes achieved a historic milestone by equalling their total medal count from all previous editions of the Games combined. Soman Rana won gold in the men's F57 para shot put with a season-best throw of 13.40m. He led an Indian one-two finish, with Shubham Juyal taking silver at 13.28m.

The 28-member para sports contingent ended their Glasgow campaign with seven medals: three gold, two silver, and two bronze. This included a record-setting run for para track and field, which secured six medals and ended a 20-year drought for the discipline. India's para-athletics success featured three double-podium finishes, including gold and bronze for Sharmila and Shilpa Shyla in women's shot put F57, and gold and silver for Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Mohammed Basil in the men's 100m T47.

Judo also provided a historic showing, as Harsh Singh (men's -60kg) and Asmita Dey (women's -48kg) both won gold. Yamini Mourya added a silver in the women's -57kg category, while Unnati Sharma claimed bronze in the women's 63kg event. Sharma secured her medal by defeating South Africa's Skye Knoester via ippon in 1 minute and 7 seconds.

In athletics, India saw mixed results. Praveen Chithravel earned a silver medal in the men's triple jump with a leap of 16.58m, while Selva Prabhu Thirumaran took bronze at 16.51m. Gulveer Singh continued an inspirational run in long-format racing, winning a bronze medal in the 5000m final with a time of 13:24.95, adding to a previous silver in the 10,000m.

Other athletic events did not yield medals for India. In the men's pole vault, Dev Kumar Meena finished fourth with a best attempt of 5.30m, and Kuldeep Kumar finished sixth with 5.10m. In the women's 10,000m race walk, Priyanka Goswami finished seventh with a season-best time of 45:53.93, while Ravina Gaikwad was disqualified.

By the end of the day's events, India's total tally stood at 13 gold, 17 silver, and 8 bronze for a total of 38 medals. Australia remained in the lead with 61 gold medals, followed by England and Canada.

India concludes the Games on Sunday, August 2, with remaining medal opportunities in judo for Ishroop Narang, Avtar Singh, and Yash Ghangas, as well as competitions in track cycling and para track cycling.
