Boxer Hannah Rapp dies at 26 after being struck by car in Texas
Professional boxer Hannah Rapp has died following a fatal collision in Brazos County. Authorities have charged 31-year-old Charles Medina with manslaughter.
The boxing world is in mourning following the death of professional boxer Hannah Rapp, who was killed in a cycling accident on Saturday, July 18. Rapp, aged 26, was struck by a vehicle in Brazos County, Texas, while riding her bicycle.
According to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 23000 block of FM 159 just before 10 a.m. Local time following reports of a major collision between a vehicle and a cyclist. Upon arrival, emergency responders found Rapp in the roadway and provided medical treatment at the scene. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where she died despite efforts to save her.
Authorities have arrested 31-year-old Charles Medina in connection with the incident. Investigators determined that Medina had been driving along FM 159 when he passed two cyclists. According to the sheriff’s office, Medina stopped his vehicle, reversed, and struck one of the cyclists, identified as Rapp. Medina has been charged with manslaughter and was taken to the Brazos County Detention Center.
Rapp, an Indiana native, had relocated to the Bryan-College Station area in 2024. Known for her dual commitment to her career and her sport, Rapp balanced her training with employment at Texas A&M, often utilizing vacation time or unpaid leave to prepare for professional bouts. Her boxing journey, which began less than five years ago, saw her rise through the ranks to compete for the World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight championship.
In June, Rapp faced Tiara Brown for the WBC title at an event known as MVPW-04. While she lost that match by a unanimous decision. Her promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, released a statement honoring her impact:
"Hannah competed on MVPW-04 in Orlando on June 13 and made a lasting impression on everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. She was a gifted athlete, a valued member of the boxing community, and someone who was deeply respected by those around her."
Jake Paul, co-founder of the promotional company, also paid tribute on social media, writing: Gone too soon. Condolences to her entire clan. RIP warrior.
The WBC also expressed its condolences, with president Mauricio Sulaiman noting that Rapp was an exceptional boxer and an invaluable member of the boxing family.
A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Rapp’s family with funeral costs and other expenses. Investigators from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the investigation into the collision remains active as they continue to gather evidence.
