Enigmatig Limited invests in Singapore-Canada co-production KUNGFULAND
Enigmatig Limited has announced an investment in KUNGFULAND, a scripted feature-length action-comedy that represents the first Treaty co-production of its kind between Singapore and Canada. The project utilizes virtual production to blend modern technology with a nostalgic cinematic style.
Principal photography for the film began June 10, 2026, at AUX Infinite Studios in Singapore. The production employs a hybrid filming approach, combining 3D virtual environments created by Infinite Frameworks and cutting-edge LED wall technology with practical, Shaw Brothers-inspired sets.
Set in Chinatown in 1999, the story serves as an homage to 1970s martial arts cinema. The plot centers on a kung fu movie enthusiast who becomes trapped inside their favorite films. To avoid being erased from existence, the protagonist must navigate classic cinematic scenarios and fight through them to save a long-lost father.
"At Enigmatig, our work has always been about one thing — helping ambitious ideas find their way across borders. KUNGFULAND embodies exactly that spirit: a homegrown Singapore story built to reach the world,"

The film is a collaboration between Singapore-based Ajacent Media and Canada-based 100 Dragons. It has received development support from the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA), Ontario Creates, and Telefilm Canada. Telefilm Canada included the project as part of a broader investment in 14 minority coproductions totaling $4,066,000, with KUNGFULAND designated as a comedy for the English-language market produced by 100 Dragons Media Inc. In Ontario.
Director Jacen Tan, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Andrew Ngin and Canadian writer Maninder Chana, said the concept was inspired by his own childhood of watching old-school kung fu movies on VHS.
"Kungfuland is a nostalgic mash-up inspired by Shaw Brothers martial arts films, powered by the latest Virtual Production technologies. Who doesn’t love drunken masters, rooftop qing-gong, long-browed villains, one-hit pressure points, and masked ninjas who politely attack one at a time?"

The cast features Idrissa Sanogo Bamba, Ellen Wong, Dion Johnstone, and Hugh Tran. Legendary Hong Kong actor David Chiang, known for The New One-Armed Swordsman, makes a cameo appearance.
Production logistics are managed by producer Kat Goh of Singapore and producer Teresa M. Ho of Canada. Ho first discovered the project in 2024 at the ATF x SAAVA IP Accelerator event in Singapore.
Distribution has already been established across three primary markets:
- Singapore: Shaw Organisation
- Canada: Raven Banner Releasing
- Rest of the World: Flourishing Films (based in Los Angeles)
For Enigmatig Limited, a global business enabler founded in 2010, the investment aligns with its core mission of supporting companies expanding across borders. Headquartered in Singapore, the company maintains a presence in London, Tokyo, Taipei, Shanghai, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and Bangkok.
Desmond Foo stated that as a Singapore-headquartered company, it is "meaningful to back initiatives like this" to help local storytelling and creative talent reach broader audiences.
