GTA VI rumored to offer 60 FPS mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X
Industry insiders suggest Rockstar Games is targeting a 60 FPS performance mode for current-gen consoles, though development crunch may delay the feature.
GTA VI Rumored to Offer 60 FPS Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X
Reports from industry insiders suggest that Grand Theft Auto VI may feature a 60 FPS performance mode for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, though the feature might not be available on the day the game releases.
The rumor originated from the Polish gaming podcast Rock and Borys. During a recent episode, Borys Nieśpielak stated he received information from a single, credible source close to Rockstar regarding the game's graphics options. According to Nieśpielak, the title is intended to offer two distinct modes—30 FPS and 60 FPS—on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
"So, based on the information I received, there are supposed to be two graphics modes (30 and 60 FPS) on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. On Series S, for now, it's 30 FPS only, but from what I was told, they're working on it with a large team from Microsoft, so maybe there will be more options there, too."

Despite the goal of offering a higher frame rate, the podcast noted that Rockstar Games has not officially announced these modes because the developer lacks 100% certainty that 60 FPS will be ready for the launch. Nieśpielak mentioned that a "serious crunch" is currently happening during development, which means the performance mode could instead arrive later via a post-launch patch.
The potential for 60 FPS on base consoles would be a departure from previous Rockstar titles, which typically ran at 30 frames per second and occasionally dipped lower during intensive scenes. While recent screenshots show extensive ray traced reflections, such features would likely be replaced by screen-space reflections in a 60 FPS mode on standard hardware.
Different hardware targets appear to be in play across the console ecosystem. The Xbox Series S is currently targeting 30 FPS, though Microsoft is reportedly working with a large team to see if higher performance options are possible. Retailers in Europe, including Kabum and Amazon Brazil, have previously listed descriptions for the game citing "higher resolution" and "more stable frame rates" for the PS5 Pro.
Other reports suggest the PS5 Pro may be the only console to fully deliver 60 FPS at launch. The insider DetectiveSeeds claims that the PS5 Pro version is already hitting 60 FPS during optimization, a result of collaboration between Sony engineers and Rockstar. There are also reports of a marketing partnership between Sony and Rockstar that could result in PS5 Pro bundles featuring the game.
The credibility of the Rock and Borys leak is supported by the podcast's history of accurate reporting; the show previously revealed that CD Projekt RED was developing a new expansion for The Witcher 3 with Fool's Theory before the official announcement.
Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed or denied these performance rumors.
