At Anime Expo 2026, Atlus unveiled significant production details regarding Persona 4: Revival. The upcoming title, a modern reimagining of the original 2008 role-playing game, will feature every in-game animated cutscene produced by the Japanese studio MAPPA.

MAPPA, widely recognized for its work on series such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Attack on Titan, has taken full creative control of the cinematic sequences for this project. This involvement represents a historic milestone for the studio; it marks only the second time in its history that MAPPA has animated the entirety of a video game's cinematic suite, following its work on the 2025 title Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road. While the studio previously contributed the opening animation for Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4: Revival serves as its first instance of handling every animated sequence for a project within the Persona franchise.

During the panel, representatives noted that the production's animation director completed thorough research by playing through the first four entries of the Persona series before commencing work on the revival. Attendees were treated to a premiere of new in-game footage, including a sequence depicting the protagonist’s first awakening of a Persona alongside Yosuke and Teddie. Additionally, a brief tease showed the protagonist in a confrontation with a Hablerie shadow.

Atlus confirmed further updates to the game's voice cast, announcing that Abby Trott will provide the English voice for the character Rise Kujikawa. Trott joins an English voice cast that includes Nazeeh Tarsha as the protagonist, Yu Narukami; Paul Castro Jr. As Yosuke Hanamura; Anne Yatco as Chie Satonaka; and Brianna Knickerbocker as Yukiko Amagi. According to Atlus, all voice lines throughout the game—including those for minor events—have been re-recorded.

The reimagining maintains the narrative core of the original, which follows a group of students in the rural town of Inaba as they investigate a series of mysterious murders tied to a supernatural world accessible through television sets. Alongside the visual upgrades and new character models, Persona 4: Revival introduces mechanical changes to its turn-based combat. These additions include a field-guarding mechanic that allows players to strike flinching Shadows to initiate a preemptive attack, as well as the ability to send status-afflicted enemies flying into nearby foes. The "Baton Pass" system from Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload will also be included, alongside a new "Prime Time" gauge that removes skill costs for a series of powerful attacks, culminating in a "Prime Time Finish."

The soundtrack for the remake will feature new compositions, including updated opening themes and battle music. Beyond the game itself, fans can revisit the franchise's history through free streams of Persona 4: The Animation and Persona 4: The Golden Animation, which are being broadcast on the Aniplex USA YouTube channel between July 4 and August 19, 2026.

Persona 4: Revival is scheduled for release on 18 February 2027. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam. The title will also be included in the Game Pass library at launch. Further details regarding the soundtrack and additional gameplay features are expected to be shared in future announcements.
