Samsung unveils Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Flip8 foldable phones
Samsung Electronics has introduced its latest generation of foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The devices were unveiled Wednesday, July 22, 2026, during the annual Galaxy Unpacked event held at Old Billingsgate in London.
The new lineup reflects a strategic shift toward a 4:3-ratio format for the Fold series, a move designed to secure market leadership as rumors persist regarding Apple's entry into the foldable space. Reports from MacRumors and 9to5Mac suggest Apple may announce a book-style foldable similar in size to an iPad mini alongside the iPhone 18 this September.
Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra: Productivity and Immersion
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is positioned for content immersion, featuring a 7.6-inch main display with a 4:3 ratio when unfolded and a 5.5-inch cover screen with a 10:16 ratio. The device weighs 201 grams and is powered by a 4,800mAh battery. Its camera system includes a 50-megapixel dual camera capable of wide-angle and ultra-wide shooting, supported by a My Fancam
feature for automatic editing and Dual Recording for simultaneous front and rear camera use.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra serves as the flagship of the series, targeted at maximum productivity. It sports an 8-inch main display and is the slimmest Fold device to date at 4.1mm when unfolded. Despite the larger screen, it weighs 215 grams. The Ultra model is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy 5th-generation mobile platform and includes a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery.
For the first time in the Galaxy Z series, the Ultra supports a dual-path charging system and 45W fast charging. Its camera hardware is headlined by a 200-megapixel main sensor with a new 200-megapixel HDR mode, paired with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera — a first for the Fold series.
Galaxy Z Flip8: Personal Expression
Designed for personal expression and AI usability, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is the lightest and thinnest in its lineage, weighing 180 grams with a thickness of 6.1mm. The device features the FlexWindow
cover display, which utilizes an AI-centric interface allowing users to access app trays, quick panels, and personalized information without unfolding the phone. It is equipped with a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera and an AI-based Pro Visual Engine.
AI Integration and Build Quality
The entire series introduces Flex Titanium technology, which utilizes a titanium alloy film and a reinforced titanium plate to increase durability and reduce the visibility of the screen crease. Roh Tae-moon, president of Samsung Electronics' DX Division, stated that as AI evolves, mobile devices will become the closest point of contact with users
.
The devices run on Galaxy AI and Gemini Intelligence. Gemini Intelligence makes its mobile debut, capable of reading on-screen context to automatically launch approximately 40 different apps for tasks such as shopping, reservations, and scheduling. Other AI tools include:
- Now Nudge: Suggests next steps based on user context and displays them alongside a chat window.
- Now Brief: Surfaced schedules, news, and health information based on daily routines and interests.
Security is managed via Samsung Knox at the chipset level, with a Personal Data Engine for on-device AI processing and Knox Vault for isolated sensitive data storage.
Pricing and Availability
The new devices are available in several colorways, including Graphite and Cream across the board. The Fold8 Ultra adds Violet Shadow and an online-exclusive Green Shadow, while the Flip8 offers Pink and an online-exclusive Mint.
