Cara Delevingne has confirmed a long-speculated romantic relationship with Amber Heard, revealing that the two were romantically involved while Heard was divorcing actor Johnny Depp. Speaking on an episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast that dropped Monday, June 29, the model and actress addressed years of rumors regarding her connection to Heard.

The relationship reportedly began after Heard's 2016 divorce from Depp, though the two women had been close for a long time. Their connection dates back to 2013, when they both starred in the movie London Fields, a production in which Depp also had an uncredited cameo. Delevingne suggested that the professional proximity created personal tension, stating that Depp was pretty driven crazy by jealousy during the filming of the movie.

However, Delevingne clarified the timeline of the romance, noting that while Depp may have been suspicious at the time, nothing was happening at that point. She explained that the romantic dynamic developed later.

When asked by Theroux if the relationship constituted an entanglement — which the host defined as a relatively short-lived liaison or series of physical encounters — Delevingne admitted that they were entangled while Heard was going through the divorce. She noted, however, that Heard was not exclusively involved with her, adding, she was also entangled with other people. When Theroux mentioned Elon Musk, the SpaceX founder and trillionaire, Delevingne replied, There you go.

The confirmation follows years of legal turmoil between Depp and Heard. The pair married in February 2015 and split in May 2016. Their subsequent legal battles included a libel action lost by Depp against The Sun and a highly publicized 2022 defamation trial. In that trial, a jury found both parties liable for defamation, though Depp was awarded more substantial damages. During those proceedings, Depp had accused Heard of having affairs with both Musk and Delevingne.

Heard dated Musk from 2016 until early 2018. Following her departure from Hollywood, Heard now resides in Madrid with three children, including twins whose birth she announced on Instagram.

During the podcast, Delevingne, who identifies as a lesbian, also reflected on her journey with her sexuality. She stated that it was super evident really young and that she knew at 11 years old. Despite this, she spent years in the closet, describing herself as an undercover lesbian while working as a Victoria's Secret star.

Delevingne revealed that her reticence to be open was influenced by industry pressure. She recalled a phone call from disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who asked her if she was gay and told her, You should never be in a relationship with a woman… You’ll never make it in the industry if people think you’re gay. Delevingne said she really believed him and took the warning to heart.

She has since become open about her identity, confirming she is a lesbian in May at a concert for Rosalia in London. She later told the Call Her Daddy podcast that she discovered more about her sexuality by sleeping with friends because of the safety provided by those relationships. Delevingne told Theroux she now feels proud of her openness, believing there is still a need for gay representation for younger children.

The actress also touched upon her personal growth, including her entrance into rehab in 2022 and her participation in a 12-step program. Speaking with Elle UK a year later, she stated that giving up alcohol had been worth every second and that she now feels free and myself, fully.

Delevingne is currently slated to appear in Jordan Firstman’s upcoming film Club Kid, which is described as a Cannes breakout.
