King Charles reunites with Prince Harry and grandchildren in UK visit
King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted Prince Harry, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and their two children at Highgrove House on Friday, July 10, 2026. The meeting at the king's country estate in Gloucestershire marked the first time the monarch has been reunited with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in four years.
The visit follows a prolonged rift that began six years ago when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped away from royal duties and relocated to Southern California. While Harry and Charles met briefly for a cup of tea at Clarence House in September 2025 — a visit lasting approximately 55 minutes — this meeting represents a broader family effort to repair relations.
The reunion was not without preliminary friction. Harry arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday for charity events, but initially arrived solo due to disagreements with royal officials. These disputes centered on security arrangements and lodging. Buckingham Palace had reportedly offered Harry a stay at the palace, only to rescind the invitation after he did not accept it in a timely manner.
The children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, had not been to the United Kingdom since June 2022, when they attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the late Queen Elizabeth II. Although they are now old enough to remember that visit, Buckingham Palace stated that no images of Friday's meeting will be released, describing the event as a private family occasion
.
The timing of the visit carries significant weight. King Charles, 77, was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. In a statement to the BBC, Harry expressed a desire to end the conflict, stating:
"I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much longer my father has."

However, the visit coincided with continued legal setbacks for the prince. Harry recently lost a privacy claim against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Mail on Sunday and Daily Mail, regarding stories about Meghan and the late Princess Diana. He has also repeatedly lost court battles to restore taxpayer-funded security from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC). Harry previously suggested that the royal family sought to prevent this police protection as punishment for his decision to leave royal life.
Tensions have been further exacerbated by Harry's memoir, Spare
, in which he alleged that the monarchy leaked information about family members to the press. In the book, he specifically accused Queen Camilla of feeding private conversations to the media to improve her image following her affair with Charles.
Beyond the family reunion, the trip serves a promotional purpose for the 2027 Invictus Games, scheduled for next July in Birmingham. The event features 12 athletic competitions involving injured veterans and service members from 26 countries. Harry, who served two tours in Afghanistan, co-founded the Invictus Games Foundation in 2014 with Keith Mills and the U.K. Ministry of Defense. On Friday morning, Harry spent time trying out some of the sports featured in the upcoming games.
While the Duke of Sussex focused on his charity work and family, his older brother, Prince William, was playing a charity polo match in Windsor, supported by Kate, the Princess of Wales. Sources indicate Harry has no plans to meet with William during this visit.
In addition to the meeting at Highgrove, the family plans to visit the burial site of Princess Diana in Northamptonshire. It remains unclear where the family is staying during their visit, though reports suggest they had been holidaying in Europe before Harry's arrival in the U.K.
