World number one Scottie Scheffler saw the PGA Tour’s longest active made-cut streak come to an end on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Genesis Scottish Open. The result marks the first time in 1,428 days that Scheffler will miss a weekend on the tour, snapping a run of 78 consecutive events.

The exit from The Renaissance Club also ended a separate streak of 35 consecutive finishes inside the top 25. Scheffler’s previous result outside that mark occurred at the 2024 BMW Championship, where he tied for 33rd.

Scheffler finished at even par through 36 holes, two shots behind the projected cut line of 2 under. After an opening round of 68, he struggled during a second round of 72. He began his Friday on the back nine and recorded back-to-back bogeys at the par-4 11th and par-5 12th. Despite a one-putt birdie at the par-3 15th, he dropped a shot at the 17th and closed with a bogey on the 18th.

The world number one nearly extended the streak on his final hole, the par-three ninth. He needed to hole a chip from the front of the green to meet the one-under-par cut line, but the effort missed, and he subsequently failed to convert a six-foot putt for par.

Scheffler’s streak of 78 was the fifth-longest in PGA Tour history. He trailed only Tiger Woods (142), Byron Nelson (113), Jack Nicklaus (105), and Hale Irwin (86). The last time Scheffler missed a cut prior to this event was at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Following his round, Scheffler attributed some of the consistency to the current tour structure.

"Yeah, it’s a little different now with some of the Signature Events not having cuts. But you know, this is — I don’t think I finished outside of the top 20 or something like that many times this year,"

He expressed pride in his consistency but noted he had not adjusted quickly to the conditions in Scotland.

"It could be one of those things where you just get over jet-lag, get used to a new style of golf, and maybe I just haven’t adjusted as quick or this golf course just doesn’t suit my eye much."

The early departure grants the 30-year-old extra time to prepare for his Claret Jug defense at the Open Championship. Scheffler confirmed he has never played at this year's venue, Royal Birkdale, and will now make the four-hour trip from Scotland early to scout the course.

Scheffler was one of several players to see double-digit cut streaks end this week, alongside Bud Cauley, Ludvig Åberg, and Xander Schauffele. Schauffele previously held the same fifth-place all-time spot before his 72-event streak ended in January. Following Scheffler's exit, Matt Fitzpatrick now holds the longest active streak on the PGA Tour at 28 straight events.

While Scheffler struggled, other players found success at the Scottish Open:

  • Jordan Smith shot a 63 to reach nine under par, including four straight birdies starting at the 11th.
  • Matt Fitzpatrick reached 8 under with a 65, which included five successive birdies. Fitzpatrick, now world number four, described his play since February as the best of his career.
  • Danny Willett moved into a share of fourth at six under after shooting a second consecutive 67.
  • Jon Rahm recovered from being five over after 11 holes on Thursday to shoot a second-round 65 and make the cut at two under.

Scheffler's performance comes amid questions regarding his victory rate compared to previous years, though he has recorded four runner-ups and five other top-five finishes this season since winning his debut at The American Express.
