Pearl Abyss to debut Crimson Desert playable demo at Gamescom and PAX West
Pearl Abyss will release a new playable demo of the open-world action-adventure game Crimson Desert at two major industry events. The title will first appear at Gamescom 2025 in Cologne, Germany, from August 20 to August 24, followed by a showcase at PAX West in Seattle, United States, from August 29 to September 1.
The demo focuses on a new questline that introduces early to mid-game content. According to the developer, the experience aims to immerse players in large-scale, open-world battlefield scenarios. These segments are designed to be visceral depictions of medieval warfare, featuring the sound of clashing steel, whistling shells, and environments filled with smoke and fire.
The narrative centers on Kliff, the leader of the Greymanes, and his mission across the continent of Pywel. Players will interact with key characters including Kliff's companion Oongka, Marquis Stefan Lanford of Calphade, and a traitor known as Cassius Morten.
To power the demo, Pearl Abyss is partnering with Samsung Electronics and AMD. At Gamescom, the company is utilizing approximately 180 monitors, specifically the 4K 240Hz OLED G8 and the 500Hz Odyssey OLED G6. All visuals are generated by the BlackSpace Engine, a proprietary next-generation tool developed by Pearl Abyss.
"At Gamescom 2025, we showcased a questline demo of Crimson Desert that really captured the feeling of being on an actual battlefield. With the incredible quality of Samsung OLED monitors, we were able to bring users a realistic and immersive open world. That means a lot to us."

The Pywel environment features dynamic effects, such as shifting weather and lighting that changes over time, alongside large geological formations like cliff faces and mountain ranges.
Visitors at Gamescom can find the demo in the Entertainment Area at Hall 06.1, Stand B041 - A040. Pearl Abyss Europe CEO Lybee Park stated that the company is thrilled
to debut the latest public demo for the first time at the event. To reward those who participate in the demo, the company is offering exclusive Crimson Desert merchandise.
Pearl Abyss, established in 2010, is also currently developing titles called PLAN 8 and DokeV using its own engine. The company is known for the Black Desert MMORPG franchise.
Crimson Desert is slated for a global release later in Fall 2025. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. A version for Mac is also currently under development.
