Bethesda and id Software have detailed Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations, a campaign expansion for the modern-Doom prequel. The DLC is scheduled to launch July 7, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The expansion introduces the Chain Spear, a weapon that integrates both offense and mobility into the medieval-themed combat. Gameplay footage shows the Doomslayer using the tool to dismantle enemies in snowy environments, reflect bullets, and grapple to ledges to levitate around foes. According to Doom director Hugo Martin, the Chain Spear includes unique glory kills and is required for survival in the endgame content, which comprises roughly 40% of the expansion.

The narrative takes the Slayer into a purgatory where he must confront haunting truths and work with a mysterious ally to fight an abomination of the gods. Beyond the main plot, the DLC serves as a retrospective of the franchise's history. Martin stated that the expansion is a celebration of the Doom games and will feature playable memories of the protagonist's time as a marine named Flynn Taggart.

These sequences include modernized versions of classic levels, which co-studio head Marty Stratton described as history with the graphics turned up. Martin noted that while the studio views Doom 3 as a fictional outlier, they have incorporated popular elements from the original games, comics, and paperback novels—specifically the name Flynn Taggart and certain famous lines—into the modern canon.

The expansion consists of six levels: five standard levels and a Purgatory hub. Martin explained that these spaces utilize a metroidvania-style design, requiring players to backtrack to access new areas as they acquire and upgrade abilities. The total length of the DLC is between 10 and 12 hours, with a higher base difficulty than the core campaign.

Combat will feature new enemy variants and returning foes. The Archvile will return with the ability to summon demons, though Martin clarified that in this version, he will not be able to resurrect them as he did in Doom 2.

Alongside the DLC, the Ripatorium 3.0 update will launch for free on July 7 for all players. This update to the customizable arena challenge mode adds:

  • Deeper customization options
  • Improved passcode generation
  • Personal preset options

Players who purchase the Revelations DLC will receive additional content for the Ripatorium upon completing the story, including three new maps, demons, and fully upgraded weapons.

The expansion is available for USD $19.99 as a standalone download. It is included at no extra cost for those who own the Collector's Bundle or the Premium Edition, the latter of which is currently available for USD $34.99. The base game remains available on Steam, Battle.net, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, as well as through various Game Pass tiers.

The expansion follows the May 2025 launch of the base game, which received a 9/10 review from IGN.
