Sony Pictures has released a trailer for Jumanji: Open World, the third and final entry in the reboot trilogy that began with 2017's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on December 25.
The new installment follows the events of 2019's Jumanji: The Next Level and marks the fifth overall entry in the wider franchise, which originated with the 1995 film starring the late Robin Williams. This time, the narrative reverses the established premise of the reboot series. While previous films saw teenagers transported into a video game based on the Jumanji board game, Open World transports the game's avatars into the real world.
The trailer depicts animals invading the real world, including a rampaging rhinoceros storming through a city. The central quartet—Smolder, played by Dwayne Johnson; Shelly, played by Jack Black; Ruby, played by Karen Gillan; and Mouse, played by Kevin Hart—reunite in a diner. However, the group faces a complication described by Spencer, played by Alex Wolff, who explains that they are stuck in demo mode

According to an official description, the movie's plot involves the game breaking free of its console and unleashing its chaos into our world
. As the avatars struggle with movements that are not suited to the real world, the group must eventually return to the game to save humanity.
The production retains the creative team from the previous two reboot films. Jake Kasdan returns to direct, having helmed both the 2017 and 2019 entries. He co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Dwayne Johnson also serves as a producer in addition to his acting role.

The film was previously teased in April at CinemaCon. During that event, Jack Black described the adventure as wild

entry in the series so far.
The production intends to pay tribute to Robin Williams, who played Alan Parrish in the original 1995 movie. Dwayne Johnson addressed this in a statement:
"Robin, as we like to say, this one's for you."
