Ubisoft is bringing the Golden Age of Piracy back to modern consoles with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a ground-up remake of the 2013 original. The title launches July 9, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, as well as PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store.

The remake utilizes the latest Anvil engine to deliver a seamless open world. Technical upgrades include ray-traced lighting, micropolygon rendering, and higher resolution textures. The experience is further enhanced by Dolby Atmos and a new dynamic weather system that introduces unpredictable elements, such as giant waterspouts, into naval encounters. Performance has also been modernized, with a 60 FPS mode available for Xbox Series X and PS5 platforms.

Expanded Narrative and Content

While the core story of Edward Kenway—a Welsh privateer navigating the war between Assassins and Templars—remains intact, Resynced introduces exclusive content. The game adds eight new story missions to the late game and new narrative arcs for fan-favorite characters, including Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard.

In a significant departure from the original, the remake removes all modern-day segments. The trips to Abstergo have been replaced with new immersive missions and challenges. The game also introduces three new officers for the Jackdaw, each providing essential perks for naval combat:

Additional features include a photo mode, new pets for the Jackdaw, new sea shanties, and the introduction of ziplines to connect high and low ground across the Caribbean.

Revamped Combat and Stealth

Gameplay systems have been rebuilt to feel more refined. Combat now centers on a defense bar system; breaking an enemy's guard allows Edward to trigger brutal cinematic takedowns via the Y button.

Stealth has been updated to remove "instant failure" states upon being spotted, requiring players to improvise their escape. Edward can now crouch anywhere to reduce visibility. Quality-of-life improvements also include a more forgiving design for tailing missions and the ability to toggle the hood on or off.

Naval Warfare and Exploration

The ship-to-ship combat retains an arcade-like feel, featuring a variety of shot types and a reputation system to manage pirate hunters. Players can navigate detailed port cities, such as Nassau and Havana's Basilica Menor de San Franciso de Asis, which no longer require loading screens to enter.

For those seeking additional content, a Deluxe Edition is available, containing the Master Assassin Character Pack (costume, sword, pistol, and trinket) and the Master Assassin Naval Pack (sail set, ship's pet, crew attire, wheel, figurehead, and hull trim). A Collector's Edition includes these digital items alongside a physical Edward Kenway figurine, a metal brooch, a SteelBook, and a cloth map.

Pre-orders include the Blackbeard’s Crimson Pack, which provides a costume, sword, and pistol. In the United States, Deluxe Edition pre-orders made through the Microsoft Store by 11:59 PM PST on July 8, 2026, also receive a $5 Xbox gift card and an in-game Resource Pack for the Jackdaw.

The release also coincides with a crossover in the Animus Hub via the final Title Update for Assassin's Creed Shadows. A new end-game quest titled The Black Tides will bridge the stories of Shadows and Black Flag Resynced, while providing Japan-inspired outfits for Edward.
