Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis to shut down on October 7, 2026
Square Enix is sunsetting its live-service mobile title, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, this fall. The company announced on July 7, 2026, that the free-to-play retelling of the classic Japanese RPG will end service on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT.
Depending on the region, the shutdown will occur at different times. For players in Europe, service ends on October 7 at 7:00 BST or 8:00 CEST. In the United States, the shutdown is set for October 7 at 2:00 AM EST. Japanese players will see the service end at 15:00 JST.
The game arrived on iOS and Android via the App Store and Google Play on September 7, 2023. A PC version launched via Steam on December 6, 2023. In a statement regarding the decision, Square Enix said:
"Since the launch of the App Store and Google Play versions on Sep. 7, 2023, and the Steam version on Dec. 6, 2023, we have worked to provide the best possible experience for our players. After careful consideration, however, we have determined that it will be difficult to continue doing so and have made the decision to end service."

The company also apologized for the abrupt nature
of the announcement.
Several operational changes took effect immediately following the July 7 announcement. The sale of Red Crystals, the game's premium paid currency, was halted as of 7:00 PM PDT on that day. While new crystals cannot be purchased, players may continue to spend any Red Crystals already in their possession until the final shutdown date.
Refunds for unused paid Red Crystals are not being offered globally. According to Square Enix, refund opportunities are available only to residents of Taiwan. The company advised players seeking refunds not to delete the app or switch devices until the process is concluded, as account verification is required.
The title served as a comprehensive mobile spinoff, covering the events of the original 1997 game as well as related media including Crisis Core and Advent Children.
Despite the closure, Square Enix stated that in-game events will continue to be released and updated until the end of service. Once all procedures associated with the shutdown are finished, the company will delete account information to protect users' personal information.
The move comes while the broader Final Fantasy VII remake series remains in the public consciousness. Square Enix has frequently brought mainline hits to mobile devices, though original mobile titles from the publisher have faced varying levels of success.
Players have until October 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT to continue playing the title before all services are terminated. Details regarding the Taiwan-specific refund process are expected to be provided in-game and on the official website at a later date.
