Sony's first official arcade-style controller for PS5 has been delayed indefinitely, though Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls remains on schedule.
Sony indefinitely delays FlexStrike PS5 fight stick launch
Sony has announced an indefinite delay for the FlexStrike wireless fight stick, a new arcade-style controller designed for PS5 and PC. The peripheral was originally scheduled to launch on August 6, 2026, but the company has pushed the release to an unspecified future date.
The delay causes the hardware to miss the launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a Marvel-themed fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by PlayStation. Both the FlexStrike and the game were set to arrive on August 6, a timing that was described as intentional to create a bundled-marketing opportunity.
Sony attributed the setback to unexpected production delays
in an update posted to the PlayStation Blog on July 14, 2026. The company stated it is taking extra time to put the finishing touches on the product
to ensure the best possible experience for players.
The FlexStrike represents PlayStation's first foray into producing its own official fight stick, a market typically led by third-party brands such as Razer and Hori. Priced at $199.99, the controller features a flat button layout and a built-in rechargeable battery. It also includes a sling carry case and supports both wired and wireless use.
For advanced users, the device offers customizable, toolless swappable restrictor gates. These allow players to toggle the digital stick between circular, octagonal, and square configurations.
The news is a blow to Sony's 2026 accessory roadmap, as the FlexStrike was expected to be the most prominent hardware release of the year. Because the company provided no revised release window, the launch could potentially slide into the fall or even 2027.
Pre-orders for the device opened on June 12, 2026. Sony has informed customers that those who ordered via the PlayStation website will receive shipping updates, while those who purchased through third-party retailers must contact the sellers directly.
Despite the hardware delay, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls remains on schedule for its August 6 release on PS5 and PC. While the game will be playable via other controllers, the lack of a simultaneous FlexStrike launch means Sony loses the ability to drive hardware sales among the most eager fans of the title.
The timing of the announcement also follows a social media post where Sony advertised the FlexStrike release date immediately after announcing it would end physical discs in 2028.
At launch, the FlexStrike will be compatible with the PS5. Compatibility for PC platforms is planned for a later date.
