Savannah Guthrie urges kidnappers to return missing mother Nancy Guthrie

Savannah Guthrie has issued a new emotional plea to the individuals responsible for the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, nearly six months after the 84-year-old was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home.

In an Instagram video posted Monday, July 27, 2026, the Today show co-host described her family as being in agony and living in a nightmare that will not end. Addressing the captors directly, Guthrie urged them to do the right thing and provide information on her mother's location.

"I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end."

Nancy Guthrie was last seen by her family at approximately 9:30 p.m. On January 31, 2026. She was reported missing on February 1 after a friend noted she had failed to appear for a virtual church service. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that the victim's limited mobility — noting she couldn't walk 50 yards by herself — indicated she did not leave the home on her own. Nanos added that while she had physical challenges and required medication that could be fatal if missed for 24 hours, her cognitive abilities remained sharp as a tack.

The Investigation and Evidence

The Pima County Sheriff's Department and FBI processed the home as a crime scene. Investigators recovered drops of blood from the porch. A glove found two miles from the residence was initially suspected to be linked to the abductor, but it was later determined to belong to a restaurant worker.

Surveillance footage recovered from a doorbell camera showed an armed male wearing a ski mask and a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. The suspect is described as having an average build and standing between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall.

Timeline data from the investigation revealed that the doorbell camera disconnected at 1:47 a.m. On February 1. By 2:28 a.m., Nancy's pacemaker app showed a disconnect from the phone. By 12:03 p.m., the family had called 911.

Ransom Demands and Conflicting Reports

According to reports from the Crime Junkie podcast, a first ransom note demanded $4 million in bitcoin, later increasing the demand to $6 million. The note claimed Nancy was safe but scared.

A second note, however, presented a different narrative. Three people familiar with the situation told NBC News of this second note in a report published June 22, indicating that Nancy had died.

Law enforcement has dealt with various leads, including the arrest of a California man, Derrick Callella, who was accused of sending fake texts to profit from the situation. While the FBI has received tens of thousands of tips, no arrests have been made in connection with the abduction. Sheriff Nanos has explicitly cleared all of Nancy's children, Savannah, Annie, and Camron Guthrie, and their spouses as suspects.

Financial Rewards and Appeals

The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy. The FBI is offering an additional $100,000.

Savannah Guthrie continues to use her public platform to seek answers. In a previous appeal, she stated that the family is ready to talk, but requires proof that her mother is alive. On June 23, during an episode of Today, Guthrie addressed reports regarding the second ransom note, begging anyone with knowledge of the situation to come forward.
